Black greaves

Trachurus trachurus

.

It is a gregarious fish, with pelagic habits, which periodically falls on our shores. The larger ones are usually a few miles offshore, while the youngest spend a lot of time - especially in summer - to shelter bays and docks. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans. It presents difficulties when it comes to scaling them, this is due to the spine of its dorsal fin and the other two located in front of the anal fin.

Elongated and compressed body. Greenish blue color, except the belly, with white or silver tones. The eyes and mouth are very large in relation to the size of the head. It is a dangerous fish since it has a small poisonous stinger in front of the first dorsal fin.
