It is a gregarious fish that lives in large banks between 15 and 50 m. It inhabits both the coast and even the coast and is the food for many predators. They feed on plankton, small fish, crustaceans and eggs of other species.

The body is elongated, not very compressed. The back is brown green and along the flanks has a bluish band. The eye has a well developed adipose eyelid.
