Verdel is the common denomination of any of the 48 species of fish that have a pointed head, a thick body that takes the form of a spindle immediately before the bilobed tail. There are 48 species of commercial importance, both for fresh consumption and for canning. It is a fatty fish called "blue" that accepts many gastronomic preparations. The fishing season is approximately from January to April or May, with the strong season being the month of March.
It has the greenish back, with black stripes, and the silver belly having the body covered with small scales. It measures about 50 cm maximum and each piece usually weighs about 0.5 kg. Behind the dorsal and anal fins it has smaller ones that are called pinules. He usually walks in large areas near the surface and his diet is based on small fish and crustaceans. The breeding season is in late spring and early summer, eggs float on the surface of the water.
The distribution of the green is extended by Atlantic, Cantabrian, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
